Amos Abrahamson, Jesse Rempel and Kade Mills into the round pen for this good natured competition.

Jesse Rempel

I was born and raised 15 miles southeast of Swift Current Saskatchewan on the family farm where we grain farmed and also had a cow calf operation. I only took a liking to horses later on in life and when I was about 15 my neighbor helped me start my first horse.   I really became fascinated with horsemanship and the process of training.  I attended Lakeland College in 2008-2009 and took the Ranch and Feedlot Rider program.  This was a great year of practical learning furthering my understanding in horsemanship and stockmanship.  To complete this program I did a one month practicum under Peter Gonnet at the Rudy Rosedale PFRA pasture.

Peter then helped me land a job with Dale Clearwater in summer of 2009 and I continued to apprentice and learn under him until the fall of 2012.  This was an awesome experience vastly expanding my understanding, training horses and also helping me get started showing in reined cow horse.  I started training on my own in the fall of 2012 and in 2014 purchased some land west of Hanley and established JT Ranch Ltd.  My wife Toni and I along with our two girls Kamryn and Emrie continue to ranch, running a cow calf operation and training horses.

Amos Abrahamson

Amos Abrahamson lives near Maple Creek, SK where he operates Diamond J Performance Horses. Amos grew up on a ranch south of Saskatoon, Sk.

As a young boy, his grandfather bought him a horse which began his passion for horses. Amos started his first colt when he was 15 years old.

After graduating high school, Amos took a job riding at the Bitter Lake Community Pasture near Maple Creek, SK. Here he learned the skills of training top notch ranch and cow horses. Through the years, Amos has had the privilege of riding with and gaining skills from many seasoned cowboys. He has also had the opportunity to apprentice under Clint Christianson and work for Walter Quarter Horses.

Amos shows in both reined cowhorse and cutting horse competitions. His horses have consistently topped the market making them in high demand. Most recently his three year old was the highest selling prospect at the 2016 Medicine Hat horse sale. And his two year olds claiming both high selling and reserve high selling two year old at the 2016 Ranch Country Horse Sale in Maple Creek.

Amos believes in starting horses young and slowly building a foundation on which each horse can reach their true potential. The combination of his years cowboying and his experience in the show pen give Amos a unique perspective on training and showing horses successfully.

Amos is excited to be part of the Equine Expo and looks forward to presenting his training methods to the audience.  You can visit his Facebook page ‘Diamond J Performance Horses’ or  Phone (306)661-8191 for more information.

Glenn is a former Champion of the Cowboy Up Challenge at the Calgary Stampede and was chosen as one of the Canadian representatives in the 2012 Road to the Horse, the World Championship of Colt Starting in Murfreesboro, TN. He was also nominated as one of Western Horse Review’s Horseman of the Year and was featured at a colt-starting symposium, Teaching the Lost Art of Starting Colts in Reno, Nevada in 2014.

Here are a few words from Glenn:

“Horsemanship is the way the human interacts with the horse. It is natural if it makes sense to the horse and considers the horse’s point of view. Regardless of the dream or discipline, whether it may be for pleasure riding, cutting, reining, dressage, ranch roping, jumping, or racing, the common denominator is always the horse. If you truly understand what is important to them and care what is important to them, the ability to read each as an individual and know the why, then the how of responding, the possibilities for what horse and human can achieve are endless.”
